If you like city trips, you can indulge to your heart's content in the cities of Kristiansand, Langesund, Larvik, Sandefjord or Oslo.
Kristiansand
Kristiansand is also known as the capital of the south. The old neighbourhood of Posebyen is the heart of Kristiansand and boasts the largest collection of charming wooden houses. Kristiansand has a lot to offer: a convivial old fish market, an atmospheric centre, a beautiful promenade and a peninsula. Norwegians love to visit this city. This area is also known as the Norwegian Riviera thanks to its relatively high sunshine.
Langesund
Langesund is a pleasant and quiet coastal town in southern Norway. Beautifully situated, this fishing settlement boasts white houses set against a mountain. In summer, the town hosts many festivals and cultural events. Famous performers to date include Bob Dylan and Elton John. You can also take a walk to the old bunker.
Larvik
This bustling city is definitely worth a visit. Larvik has been crowned Summer Town of the Year several times. In summer, the streets fill with Norwegians and tourists and the water is teeming with boats. Get an inside view into the life of the Vikings at Kaupang Viking Town. Norway's largest pebble beach, Mølen beach, is only a stone's throw from Larvik.
Sandefjord
If you want to soak up culture, Sandefjord is the place for you. For a long time, Sandefjord was the whaling capital of the world. Today, the Whaling Museum in the town is the only reminder of this time: the Vestfoldmuseene IKS, a small museum dating back to 1917. Another fun idea: visit Midtasen Sculpture Park.
Oslo
Oslo is the place to be if you are after a dose of art and culture during your holiday. This city offers plenty of modern architecture, convivial neighbourhoods and many museums. If you want to combine a lovely walk with some fabulous art, visit Vigeland Park (part of Frogner Park) where you will find more than 200 sculptures by sculptor Gustav Vigeland, one of Norway's most famous artists.
